Making a Difference
Breakthrough teachers come from all different backgrounds, interests and college majors, but they are united in their commitment to help underserved middle school students get on a solid track to college.
Breakthrough teachers are usually first-time teachers. Working under the direction of experienced educators who provide support in lesson planning, classroom management and all other aspects of learning, Breakthrough teachers lead the program.
From curriculum implementation, to lunch supervision, to organizing special event days, to creating lesson plans and grading papers, the teachers at Breakthrough make the program the success that it is.
Breakthrough teachers have five or six students in their classes, which means they can make real connections with the children they teach. Breakthrough teachers are positive role models, mentors, leaders and learners. They demonstrate by example that “it’s cool to be smart.”
